Taking the Helm: How EMS Responders Lead with Responsibility

Let’s face it. we are responsible for our patients. Imagine you’re the captain of a ship. Your patient is like the precious cargo you need to deliver safely. Sounds like a big adventure, right?

We’ve all been in those super busy scenes where there’s so much to do. You’re trying to do a bunch of things like carrying bags, driving the ambulance, and calling in reports. It’s like trying to juggle while riding a bike – tricky!

Most of the time, other responders are there to lend a hand. They’re like your crew on the ship, and they’re usually trained to help out. But what if they don’t do things just right? What if someone snaps a photo when things aren’t going perfectly, and it looks like you didn’t do your best?

It’s like if someone on your ship wasn’t tying the ropes properly, and you had to make sure the cargo didn’t fall overboard. You’re the captain, so it’s up to you to keep everything shipshape.

I had a great chat with Mike Chanat about this. We shared some cool ideas on how to handle these situations. It’s all about teamwork, but also making sure you’re steering the ship in the right direction.

Remember, our main job is to take care of our patients, just like a captain takes care of their ship. So, keep an eye on everything, work with your team, and make sure your patient gets the best care on their journey.
